Wat is alfa liponzuur?
Alfa liponzuur is een zwavelhoudende stof die door het lichaam zelf wordt gemaakt maar ook uit voeding, o.a. (orgaan) vlees, verkregen kan worden. Alfa liponzuur is zowel in vet als in water oplosbaar. Het is een zeer krachtige ani-oxidant maar is ook in staat om andere vitamines zoals vitamine C en E te recyclen zodat deze stoffen opnieuw hun werk in het lichaam kunnen doen.Wetenschappelijk onderzoek over alfa liponzuur
Wetenschappelijk onderzoek heeft aangetoond dat Alfa liponzuur in staat is om de verbranding van glucose te verhogen. Dit komt omdat Alfa liponzuur een belangrijk onderdeel is van de Krebs Cycle, het verbrandingsproces binnen de mitochondria, de energie centrales van de cel. Bovendien is Alfa liponzuur een krachtige anti-oxidant en kan zowel in water als in vet zijn werk doen.Alfa liponzuur neemt net als chroom een belangrijke plaats in bij de preventie en behandeling van diabetische complicaties, en in het bijzonder neuropathie. In Duitsland wordt alfa liponzuur al 30 jaar lang gebruikt bij de behandeling van diabetische neuropathie.
Er zijn een aantal onderzoeken (Lee WJ, Jacob S) die aangeven dat alfa liponzuur insuline resistentie kan verminderen. Alfa liponzuur kan daardoor ingezet worden bij de behandeling van hyperinsulinemie een van de oorzaken van overgewicht.
Contra indicatie
Patienten die behandeld worden voor een schildklier deficientie (T4 hormoon suppletie) moeten er rekening mee houden dat alfa liponzuur de conversie (omzetting) van T4 naar T3 verminderd. Patienten die geen extra T4 toegedient krijgen hebben hier geen last van.Referenties alfa liponzuur

The results suggest that oral administration of alpha-lipoic acid can improve insulin sensitivity in patients with type-2 diabetes. Alpha-lipoic acid (CAS 62-46-4, thioctic acid, ALA), a natural occurring compound frequently used for treatment of diabetic polyneuropathy, enhances glucose utilization in various experimental models. This is the first clinical study to show that alpha-lipoic acid increases insulin stimulated glucose disposal in NIDDM. The mode of action of ALA and its potential use as an antihyperglycemic agent require further investigation.
